The Summer You’ve All Been Waiting For

Days are getting longer, we’ve already seen some beautiful sun (long may it remain!) and summer holidays are just on the horizon. And, it’s the first summer in a few years where things aren’t cancelled, changed up, or restricted, woohoo! So the question is, how are you spending yours? We’ve put together a list of different activities you can get up to with your mates, your fam, or on your own…
The great outdoors…
With British weather it’s hard to know if the sun will be here for six minutes, let alone six weeks, but, keeping the hope alive, here are a bunch of activities embracing the outdoors:
Play the beautiful game: Find a local pitch or field to play football in with your friends. Use your jumpers/bags as goal posts and just have fun having a kickabout. You could even do a penalty shoot out to see who’s really got the golden boot!
Get the wheels turning: Grab a bike each and explore your area, whether that’s a new part of town, a coastal pathway, some woodland, or the park. Why not take it in turns to map out a route!
Right hand red, and green, and blue: Have some fun getting messy by playing Paint Twister! Wear old white clothing, pour the same colour paint on the coloured spots on a Twister mat, and let the games begin!
This one’s…in-tents: Plan a camping trip! Pitch up in a back garden, find a nearby camping ground, or see if your local park allows it. Get some snacks, some torches, and don’t forget the toilet roll!
The great INdoors…
Just because the sun is out, doesn’t mean you’ll want to, or even have to, go outside. There are plenty of things to do indoors that are just as fun:
Ready, Set, Go!: Come up with some sort of tournament for everyone. It might be gaming, it might be baking, it might be speed reading, it might be painting. Just get competitive and get going!
A marathon you don’t have to run: Forget lacing up your trainers, just line up your favourite movies and shows instead! Pull an all nighter and see how many episodes or films you can get through in a night…or day…or week!)
The great escape: Just because you want to be indoors, doesn’t mean it has to be in your own house. Why not go to an escape room with some pals and see if you can beat the clock!
Trying new things…
Summer is a great time to find yourself, recreate yourself, and prepare yourself for a new academic year. So why not try some new things, learn some new skills, and meet some new people along the way…
Sign up for Summer ‘22: Shameless plug alert! If you’re looking for a great way to spend your summer, get yourself on NCS! Take on some new challenges, meet your new BFF, face your fears, smash some goals, and generally have a summer you’ll never forget.
An apple a day: If there’s a local farm or orchard near you, check out whether you can go and do some fruit picking! Load up a punnet, chill with your mates, and get some real grid worthy pics at the same time!
Get cultured: if you’re looking to inject a little culture into the holidays, why not check out the museums, galleries, or libraries in your area. You might just get inspired for your next big idea!
Skill up: Expand your repertoire by having a skills sharing sesh with your pals. Do presentations on something you’re an expert in and teach everyone else what you know!
Going solo…
Sometimes it’s good to recharge your social metre and rest by yourself:
Wake or rest with Mother Nature: Take some time to appreciate the day and reflect on how you’re feeling by either getting up early and watching the sunrise, or staying out to watch it set.
Find a new reading list: Is there a second hand bookshop where you live? Why not go and browse and find a new favourite read! you could even set yourself a challenge like finding a book published in the year you were born, or written by someone with the same name as you!
Take yourself on a date: Dates don’t need to be a two person thing! Treat yourself to a day out. Go for a picnic, or to a movie, or even to dinner by yourself and remind yourself how great you are!
