When school’s out for Years 11 and 12, there are many valuable skills, important lessons and life-changing experiences that can be learned outside of the classroom – and NCS is here to make that happen. It’s why we’ve already worked with 92% of mainstream schools and colleges, and would love to work yours, too. It’s our mission to help all 16-17 year olds fulfill their potential and smash their future goals.
There are lots of ways we work with schools and colleges to make NCS a reality for their pupils. We’ve listed a few below, but get in touch and together, we’ll find the best way that works for you.
We’re Ofsted approved
In their School Inspection Handbook, Ofsted describes NCS as a programme whose positive impact on pupils may be considered as part of an Ofsted inspection report (see paragraph 217).
To make sure inspectors get the relevant information, we recommend contacting your local NCS team, who’ll be able to provide you with all the details – such as the number of your students who’ve taken part, whether you are a Champion School, and what skills they’ve developed as part of the programme.
Assembly visits
Guided assemblies, led by our trained local NCS teams, are one of the most engaging ways to get Year 11s and 12s excited about the programme. We also provide NCS-led tutorials and information stands at careers and freshers’ fairs. It’s important to keep parents and guardians in the loop too, so we can also attend parents’ evenings for special Q&A sessions.
Sharing information
Speaking of informing parents and guardians, we can also supply you with booklets and material to share with them – as well as content for you to put together your own communications. Our amazing NCS grads will gladly come along to your institution and talk about their experience. Because what better way to hear about what happens than from those who’ve been there and done it?
Champion Schools
Your school could also be awarded 'Champion' status in recognition of all the hard work you’ve put into promoting NCS and encouraging young people to sign up. Institutions can gain Gold, Silver or Bronze status and you’ll be awarded a plaque – something you can show Ofsted to highlight how much you’ve supported your students’ extracurricular opportunities. You can see a list of the schools awarded Champion status for 2019.
Partner Colleges
Recently we launched the Partner College Awards; established to better recognise the hard work and developing engagement of colleges with the NCS programme. To celebrate this success, we’ll be hosting an annual awards ceremony where winners are awarded a plaque (Gold, Silver or Bronze status) and a certificate. It’s another impressive achievement that demonstrates to Ofsted your commitment to the personal development of young people. NCS also supports winners with local media stories to celebrate their success locally. Find a list of the colleges awarded Partner status for 2019.
Teacher support
Guided sessions led by NCS staff can be provided to support classroom activities such as PSHE sessions, stress-busting workshops or exam preparation guidance.
"I would urge schools and colleges to work with NCS and together we can help prepare and develop young people for the future" - Brian Lightman, former general secretary, ASCL
