Which Fictional School Would You Want To Attend?
Have you heard of mad-libs before? They’re a story based game, where you fill in blanks - where you’ll find prompts for a particular category like noun, character, verb etc - to create an adventure that can be absolutely lols, can make absolutely no sense, and can be absolutely unique to you. With that in mind, and with the academic year starting up again soon, we thought we’d make a new mad-libs all about fictional schools. Think Hogwarts, Riverdale High, Hawkins Middle School, Mystic Falls High, or any school that takes your fancy, and get involved in the story below! Write your prompts on a piece of paper to keep track of them, or just pick them in your head and read as you go…
It started just like any other day at (school choice), the rain was (‘ing’ verb) against the windows causing the outside world to become a blur. The class (verb) away whilst (teacher name and action the teacher is doing).
In the distance, outside the window, a (adjective) figure (verb) at the school. I looked away, thinking it was my imagination, but on a second glance, it suddenly seemed to be running towards us. I turned to (friend/character name), who was busy chatting away about (topic). I felt bad interrupting their impassioned speech, but they needed to see what was happening!
“Look. Out. Side” I said, with a matter of urgency. But (character name) still didn’t seem to care!
All of a sudden, there was a loud (verb) and a (adjective/ noun/verb) sound. I instinctively grabbed (friend/character name)’s arm and they did the same to me.
“What was that?” they asked.
“I don’t know, butI think we should go find out?” I replied, shoving my things in my backpack.
“Are you crazy!?” they cried, scrambling their things together. It seemed like we were the only two people in class who had heard anything though, so I started to wonder if I was indeed crazy. But I knew I’d seen that figure out the window, and now, they were nowhere to be seen.
We moved quietly out of the classroom, and as we came into the hallway, the emergency lights were on, and a (adjective) mist filled the air.
“I have a bad feeling about this” whispered (friend/character name), but it was hard to properly care with all the mist. We carried on through the halls, clinging to each other. As we got closer to the (school topic) classroom, I held my breath and (adverb) brought my finger to my lip. I knew any sound could be dangerous. We looked at each other, nodded our heads to the count of three, before (adverb) moving round the corner.
And there before us, was a huge (animal/monster/being) trying to break down a door.
“OH. MY. GOSH.” stuttered (friend/character name), a little too loudly. The (animal/monster/being) turned its head slowly and I felt my whole body (verb). It (adverb) turned towards us.
“RUN!” I shouted, turning to (friend/character name), but they were already gone.
I ran as fast as I could through the misted halls, got to the food hall and threw the door closed behind me.
“What’s got you all scared?” said (new character name). I didn’t even see them at first, but they were (‘ing’ verb) against ( object).
“Oh I don’t know, maybe that big (animal/monster/being) that’s roaming the halls out there?!” I replied sarcastically, hardly believing that no one else was as scared as me. I moved away from the door quickly, eyes set on the handles.
“A (animal/monster/being)? That seems pretty unlikely.” They laughed, walking towards the door.
“I really wouldn’t go near the door” I winced, ducking down below a table.
The handles started to turn, my heart started to beat so fast I thought it was going to burst right out of my chest. And suddenly, the door was open. A second of nothing but tension in the air, and then, appearing slowly, was (friend/character name).
“Don’t worry, there’s nothing here!” They said before turning back to the hallway and shouting “Helloooooo, anyone out there??”
Another few seconds of silence in which I could swear my heart was beating in my ears. And just as I was about to come out from my hiding place, the (animal/monster/being) pounced on (friend/character name).I screamed and covered my eyes. I couldn’t believe it, I didn't want to believe it. My best friend!
And then? After what felt like (length of time) there was laughter. So much laughter. Surely I must have gone crazy because who would be laughing at a time like this? I peeked my eyes from behind my hands and saw ( friend/character name) and (new character name) on the floor, doubled over laughing. Mounds of (material to best describe animal/monster/being) surrounding them. I slowly pulled myself up, still shaking, unable to comprehend what had happened, and made my way over to them. Through fits of laughter, (friend/character name) sat up, pointed to the table behind me, where I finally saw a phone pointing right at me, on record, and simply said “(phrase)!”
