Spreading Christmas Cheer To Children This Year
A team of Changemakers from Stoke-On-Trent have made sure that everyone feels the love this festive season. When coming up with their social action project idea, they knew they wanted to do something around Christmas, and began thinking about ways they could make people feel happy and loved.
They quickly settled on the idea of buying Christmas presents for the siblings of children at The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, whose parents often have to devote much of their attention to the child in the hospice.
To make this happen, the team organised a bingo night at Knutton Ex-Servicemen’s club to raise money for gifts.
“For the bingo night, we messaged and rang different local businesses explaining what we were doing to help children have a better Christmas and we managed to get prizes including Flip Out trampoline park vouchers, beauty vouchers, Port Vale tickets and loads more” said Changemaker team member, Amelia.
Over 60 people showed up to the night, raising a total of £800, allowing the team to buy 40 more presents! Amazing!
Changemaker Annie said, “It felt really rewarding to buy the presents for the children to make their Christmas wishes come true. I definitely want to continue to work in the community.”
The group wrapped all the presents and took them to the hospice, where they were put under the Christmas tree waiting to be given to the young siblings.
Krisha, who works at the hospice said: “The presents from the young people are hugely appreciated and will be a massive help with the current cost of living crisis. We can’t wait to see the smiles that they bring at our party”.
What a wonderful time of year!
