Answers
1. The answer is b) Henri Delaunay. Delaunay was the first ever General Secretary of UEFA and created the idea of what would become the European Championships in 1927. The first tournament took place in 1960 and sadly, Delaunay never got to see his idea come to fruition after his death in 1955…but his legacy remains as the trophy was named in his memory.
2. The answer is Germany (previously having competed also as West Germany) and Spain. They are the most successful teams in Euro history, with three titles each. They are followed by France and Italy, with two apiece…Sorry, England 🙁
3. The answer is c) 24. The tournament will comprise 24 teams, with Georgia the only team making their European Championship finals debut.
4. The answer is a) Greece. The Greeks completed one of the most remarkable stories in the history of football and for the next four years had the right to call themselves champions of Europe!
5. The answer is True! FUSSBALLLIEBE means ‘love of football’ in German. The ball features adidas Connected Ball Technology for the first time at a UEFA Euro — providing unprecedented insight into every element of the movement of the ball and contributing to UEFA’s video assistant refereeing decision-making process.
6. The answer is c) 2016. In 2007, the Football Association of Ireland and Scottish Football Association proposed the expansion of the tournament, which was later confirmed by the UEFA Executive Committee in September 2008. Out of the 54 member associations of UEFA, only three, including England and Germany, opposed the expansion 👀
7. The answer is b) Cristiano Ronaldo, of course! With 14 goals and counting.
8. The answer is b) Berlin. The Olympiastadion in Germany's capital will host the final on July 14. Home to Hertha Berlin, it is the tournament's biggest venue and staged the 2006 World Cup final and the 2015 Champions League final.
9. The answer is a) Netherlands, who beat Yugoslavia 6-1 in the 2000 Euro quarter-finals. France, Denmark and Sweden have all won by 5-0 margins.
10. The answer is c) Ice hockey. Vlastimil Bubník, who scored for Czechoslovakia in the third-place play-off win against France, won an ice hockey bronze medal at the 1964 Winter Olympics.
P.S. Good luck England!
