Today, we’ve got a poem by Verity that’ll definitely get you thinking about making your mark in the world...
Breath of Name
I want to leave a legacy and not be forgotten, I think this is a human thing but maybe it's just me?
I don’t want my name to be a breath of air that’s blown away in the storm of celebrities.
I heard once that you die twice, first when your body fails you and your heart no longer pumps, and again the final time when your name is last spoken.
Mortality is a power, to have the gift of death is to live a meaningful life knowing it will end. I don’t want to be forgotten like so many before me and so many after. I want to leave something behind so that I may never die.
Maybe I shall have children and keep my name alive or maybe I’ll inspire the new generation so they may say my name again.
And if my breath of name does get swept away I want the birds to catch it so they can sing it in the morning rays. I don’t want to be forgotten, I pray.
