We’re back with another instalment of Poet’s Corner, our series featuring poems written for you, by you! This time, Vania writes about how your truest form is your most beautiful…
THE BEAUTY IN DIFFERENCE
a creation from the grain of dust
seen and glorified, emotions amplified
from his masculine sculpt and broadened shoulders
to her feminine curves of the elusive mould
he dwells on weaknesses,
she resonates on imperfections
entrapped in their differences and yet feign indifference
Then why do we compare?
when melanin coats the struggle of few,
but a canvas of history paints the palms of all
when silky hair can be defined as brown, blonde, brunette
or fine ‘ginger’
but the soul of an African lays at kinky roots.
when the bronzed glow of Indian skin
complements the icy pale exterior of the Scandinavian
but the towering summits of Asia
oppose the empty deserts of Africa
Is our need to be perfect so inherent that we cannot see beauty?
the unified beauty of such different individuals
limited by man's greed for belonging
within the diversity of a great country
we can neither be black nor white
simply beautiful in his eyes
created in his image, made to be different
must we rank them as better or worse than the other?
Why not embrace who you are?
The beauty of every imperfection.
The pain,
the truth,
the reality,
of every hidden emotion
dormant in this shielded dark well.
being your truest form
with all the heartaches and doubts
fear and thrill,
ecstasy and desire,
flaws and scars,
your crown of acceptance,
the beauty in difference
We’ll be sharing your poetry throughout the year, and it’s totally up to you what you write about. If you want to get involved, let us know over at @NCS or fill in our writer application form.
