How To Fundraise For Charity
Include this article in your Skills Builder Journal. It could help you develop...
If the last year has shown us anything, it's that sometimes little things make a whole world of difference (here’s to you Captain Sir Tom Moore!) So, if you’re looking for a way to help out your favourite charity, but aren't quite sure where to start - or maybe thought your idea wasn’t ‘big’ enough - then take a look at these helpful tips by Women’s Aid on fundraising….
GET MOVING
During the national lockdowns, we’ve seen fundraisers climb the height of Kilimanjaro using their staircase at home, running a marathon in their back garden and even cycling the length of the British Grand Prix around their dining room! At a time where we are unable to visit exciting places, let exciting places come to you! Check out The Conqueror Events app for ideas on exciting virtual challenges you can participate in within lockdown restrictions including following the path of the Inca Trail or completing the length of Hadrian’s Wall. The possibilities are endless. Use your imagination and you can go anywhere!
HOST A VIRTUAL EVENT
Virtual events have been one of the joys of lockdown, allowing us to connect as best we can, and have a giggle or two along the way. Holding a virtual event is a great way of seeing friends and family and raising money for charity at the same time. Come up with a virtual event - whether it be a quiz, a baking competition, a comedy night, an open mic night, or even just a coffee and catch up morning - and sell ‘tickets’ where everyone joining makes a donation to the charity of your choice before taking part. You can live stream directly from a JustGiving fundraising page and ask viewers to donate what they can to attend your event.
HAVE A CLOSET CLEAR OUT
Lockdown has provided plenty of time to have a clear out and ditch some of our unused clothes. Did you know you can raise money for charities (like Women’s Aid!) with your unwanted clothes? Re-fashion is an online charity shop who resell unwanted clothes and raise money for good causes. You can donate your unwanted clothes, or buy new ones, and a proportion of every sale goes to different charities like Women’s Aid, Make-A-Wish, Coppafeel and Labour Behind The Label. It’s a simple way to make a big difference!
GIVE AS YOU LIVE
Give As You Live can turn your spending (or your parents) into donations. By signing up to their service, every time you shop online through their app (in one of over 4,000 retailers listed, like Boots, Moonpig, Domino’s, Waterstones and Asos), your chosen charity will receive a percentage of your spend as a donation. So, if setting up a big fundraiser isn’t really your thing, but you still want to do something, this might just be the route for you!
Women’s Aid is a national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. They have been at the forefront of shaping and coordinating responses to domestic violence and abuse for over 45 years. They empower survivors by keeping their voices at the heart of their work, working with and for women and children by listening to them and responding to their needs. You can find out more about Women’s Aid and what they do by heading to their website.
And don’t forget to let us know about your fundraising over at @NCS!
