Good News: From Space Birthdays To Typewriter Thanks
We’re here to bring you a weekly round up of lovely things that spread some joy, share some smiles and generally shine a light on all the good in the world right now...
5 for 5... for over £5million
The task is simple. Run 5k. Donate £5. Tag 5 mates. Virgin Money set this social challenge with the aim to raise £5000 for NHS Charities Together, but so many people got excited and got involved, that within four days that target was well and truly smashed. And now? They’ve raised over £5million and counting! Read the full story here.
Your birthday from space
This week, NASA gave everyone a birthday treat by opening up their Hubble Telescope picture archive, meaning you can search for your birthday (or any date you want) and see what was captured up in the universe. The hubble orbits the universe 24/7, so you’re guaranteed for something cool. Find your picture here.
With thanks, T. Hanks.
Tom Hanks once again proved why he is truly a lovely cinnamon bun of a man, when eight year old Corona De Vries wrote him a letter whilst being quarantined in Australia. Corona said he was “sad and angry” because classmates were bullying him for his name. Tom not only wrote back, but gifted him a typewriter that happened to be made by the brand Corona. Oh Tom, we could all use a friend like you. Read the full story here.
We’re not in Modor anymore…
When Twitter user @directedbyrian posted about her turnips and offered a dodo code, little did she know everyone’s favourite hobbit would stop by. Into her DM’s slid none other than Elijah Wood, who came and hung out on her island and marvelled at its beauty. See the full story here.
Colonel Tom turns 100
We all celebrated when Captain Tom’s reached 100 laps of his garden and raised a whopping £30 million for NHC Charities Together. And this week, not only did he turn 100, but he got a military fly over, hundreds of thousands of birthday cards, and was made an honorary Colonel. Three cheers for Colonel Tom! Read his story here.
