Social action projects come in all shapes and sizes – even animations, like this awesome, creative project, entitled ‘Save Your Planet’, from Nottinghamshire-based NCS grad team Mavericks.
What would cause a group of NCS grads to make an animation chronicling the life of a plastic bottle?
Well, ‘Save Your Planet’ was originally inspired by the issues we hear an increasing amount about: climate change, ocean pollution and endangered species. Mavericks wondered how they could inform and inspire people to take action in their local area, and settled on the idea of an easy-to-understand animation about a plastic bottle that’s been chucked away.
The video features some clever stop-motion and handmade paper visuals to tell a serious story: we need to cut down on single-use plastic because it’s killing our animals, polluting our oceans and ultimately destroying our planet.
But the team didn’t just make a creative masterpiece! They also put their tips into action and arranged a beach clean in their local area.
“We worked with the Gamston litter picking group to pick litter in Holme Pierrepont,” said team member Amelia. “Together we cleaned up the Skylarks Nature Reserve, which is where many people go to see nature. We cleared up lots of unnatural litter which made the reserve more environmental.”
And the team hope the animation will encourage a lot more people to do the same thing. Well done guys, we love your creative flare at tackling a big issue!
