A Big Thank You To Our Writers This Year
Well look at that, we made it through the year! And we couldn’t have done it without you. Literally! You’ve read our content, shared our content, loved our content...and even written some of our content too. We’re so lucky to have such a great pool of writers who get involved, pitch us ideas, and write thought provoking, funny, sad, and amazing blogs. So we’re saying a big thank you to everyone who’s written for us this year. Here’s a rundown of some of our faves, and everyone involved…
ARE NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS A GOOD OR A BAD THING?
In January, Lucy and Maya took us into the new year with a look at New Year’s Resolutions. Do they make us better people? Or are they a pointless exercise that just make us feel like failures?
HAS EQUALITY BEEN REACHED FOR THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY?
It’s something that’s long been fought for, but has LGBTQ+ equality truly been achieved in today’s society? Or do we still have a long way to go? Mia and Kajaanie, shared their views on this important topic of conversation.
CREATING ONLINE SPACE THAT’S BEST FOR US
As we all started to adapt to the lockdown, many of us found ourselves in a situation we’d never been in before, that led to a lot of different feelings. Jasmine R put together some research and found ways for us all to make sure we kept our mental health just as much a priority as our physical health.
I HAVE AUTISM BUT I DON'T LET IT STOP ME
Connor wrote about how lots of young people - like climate activist Greta Thunberg - live on the autism scale. He told us all about how having autism has helped him gain confidence and do things he didn’t think were possible.
BLACK IS DIFFERENT. BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL. BLACK IS EQUAL
On 25 May, George Floyd, a Black man from Minnesota, was killed while in police custody. George’s death has led to discussions about systemic racism being more prevalent than ever. Elizabeth wrote a thought provoking piece about her experience growing up as a Black girl in the UK.
MY LESSONS FROM LOCKDOWN
Lockdown continued for most of the summer, and while it was a strange time, how we adapted to new ways of living was quite impressive. João kept note of how he felt during lockdown, and wrote about what he learnt about himself and his world.
I’M A VIRGIN...AND THAT’S OKAY!
We reached out to you guys during Sexual Health Week in September to ask your views on sexuality, sex, gender and a whole bunch of other topics. We had this great blog written by an anonymous NCS Grad on the pressure to have sex and why being a virgin is not a bad thing.
I WAS BULLIED, BUT LOOK AT ME NOW!
Verity wrote us this blog for Anti-Bullying Week about her challenges with dyslexia, and how she’s not letting the bad times outweigh the good. This is her story on how she’s tackled bullying and learnt to thrive.
And a big shout out to all our other contributing writers, who gave us blogs this year on issues that mattered to them. From climate change to bullying, mental health to exercising, gender and identity to race, budgeting to meditation...we’ve had it all! So, thank you to:
