With our summer programmes already underway, we knew you might want to know more about what to expect, so, we opened our ask box to you, and got loads of great questions! We’ve answered as many as we can - some had a little too much personal info, so for safeguarding reasons we haven’t included those here, so, if you don’t see yours below but still want answers give us a call on 0800 197 8010 or hit the live chat button and we’ll get back to you.
BEING ON PROGRAMME
What activities do we actually do on programme?
You could be doing anything from climbing impressive walls to tackling treasure hunts! And you’ll take part in a bunch of activities that are all about getting life skills to set you up for the future (think money management, cooking, and developing your public speaking). You’ll be feeling pretty fearless by this stage so when it comes helping to plan and bring to life a rewarding community project you’ll be raring to go. And don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of down time to refresh and recharge too!
Where is the social action project held?
Your social action project is always done in your local community, so it’ll be close and accessible to you.
What food will be provided?
The food varies at each location and for each week – there could be self-service canteens, or you might be getting your chef’s hat on and doing some food prep yourselves. Have any requirements? Is your diet vegan, halal, gluten free? You name it, we cater for it. Just let us know beforehand and we’ll be sure to keep your belly full. And hey, if you’re worried about what’ll be on the menu, why not make a little space in your bag for some snacks!
How do I convince my mum to let me go?
Without knowing what your mum's reservations are about you attending NCS, it's a tough one to answer. But, what we would say is to tell your Mum that on NCS you get to make lots of new mates, try new things that push you out of your comfort zone (in the best way possible!), build your confidence, gain life skills and work to give back to your community. If that doesn't work, try showing your mum this video!
Does the programme include weekends?
No, the vast majority of NCS programmes run Monday to Friday, so you’ll have your weekends free between all the activities you get up to with us!
What about opportunities for young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities? I can’t find any information on the website that tells me about NCS programmes aimed at young people with disabilities e.g. autism, who might find it difficult to take part otherwise?
At NCS, we do everything we can to ensure our programmes are inclusive and accessible at every stage. So when you sign up, we’ll ask you to tell us more about any individual needs in the Joiner Form. Based on the information provided, you may then get a call from us to chat about how we can provide support and find the best NCS programme. Adjustments made will always seek to respond to the needs of the individual. This might include (but isn’t limited to) physical spaces, level and type of staffing support, equipment and activities.
Hi! I was wondering if there's an exact itinerary yet for the Summer 2021 programme?
There isn't an exact itinerary as what you’ll be getting up to will vary from place to place. However, once you have been assigned to a local team, you will be able to ask them more specific questions and find out exactly what activities and fun is in store for you!
Hi. My friends and I can't attend the summer programmes. I really wanted to go because it looks so fun! Will there be other options for dates that my friends and I can attend?
Yep! We’ll have more programmes available in autumn - these will be released around the end of August, so keep your eyes peeled and sign up when you can!

If you put down people you want to be with are you guaranteed to get put in a group with them and if so how big are the groups? Finally do we make our own way each day of the week to wherever we need to be?
If you’ve got a mate going on NCS, we’ll try our very best to get you booked onto the same programme, but we can't guarantee this. Just drop us an email to contact@wearencs.com with their name, live chat us via our website, or give us a call on 0800 197 8010.
And we’ll sort everything out for you when it comes to getting to and from places. You’ll get more info about this from your local NCS team nearer to the time.
What if I don't get the same date as my friends, could I change it?
Yes, if you want to change your dates, contact us ASAP and a member of our team can arrange new dates for you!

Is it possible to pay by PayPal for summer?
Unfortunately not no, you have to pay via a bank card.
Are there a limited amount of spaces?
Yes, there are limited amounts of spaces available, so make sure to sign up quickly! We haven’t completely sold out, but we’re getting there so don’t miss out!
How much is the price all together?
The most you’ll pay is £50!
What if you can't afford the £50 for NCS?
We want everyone to be able to take part in NCS, so if the cost is stopping you, just let us know and we can chat about your options - we have bursary options available which you might be applicable for. Just give us a call on 0800 197 8010 or live chat us.
Where in the UK does NCS take place because I live in Leeds but I wanted to know if it is too far from there?
Our programmes take place all over the UK! We’re not just based in one location, so, your programme will be local to you - just head here and click the register now button, fill in your postcode and see what’s nearest to you!
Is there a deadline for the application?
No there isn't a deadline, but places are given on a first come first served basis - and are being snapped up fast! - so it's best to apply ASAP.
Where are pick up points near me?
Once you have been assigned an NCS programme in your area, you will receive an email with your pick up point. The meeting place should be within range of your postcode area. No further than an hour there and back travel wise with public transport or driving.
When I got the email with my login, the login was not there, how do I get it?
Oh dear, sorry about that! Give us a ring on 0800 197 8010 and we’ll get that all sorted for you.
How do we make the payment?
It’s simple! Just head here and follow all the steps - payment will be made with a bankcard through the website.
Can you decide you don't wanna go anymore?
We’d hate to see you go, but totally understand that sometimes things happen which mean you can’t attend anymore. If this happens, just make sure to contact us ASAP and a member of our team can arrange new dates for you.
What should I bring? Is there a kit list?
Yep! We’ve got a recommended kit list all laid out on your My NCS page, just sign in and find all the deets there.
