World Kindness Day: Ten Ways To Show Kindness
It’s World Kindness Day, and nothing is nicer, or cooler, than being kind. So how can you do it for the people you love? Here’s ten easy ways to spread some kindness around…
HAVE A CUPPA
If there’s anything we (and every writer on Eastenders) know, it’s that a cup of tea solves everything. Feeling sad? Have a cuppa. Want to celebrate? Have a cuppa. Need to relax? Have a cuppa. And so on and so forth. But there’s also nothing better than someone else making you the perfect cup of tea. So why not do just that for your parents, your pals, your siblings, or someone you work with. An unexpected mug full of love? Yes please.
S-M-I-L-E
Might seem obvious, but a smile can go a long way, and really brighten up someone’s mood. Especially if they’re feeling a little low. Next time you’re out and about why not smile at a couple of people you pass and see if it makes a difference.
SHOW UP ON TIME
Another seemingly obvious thing, but showing up on time for someone is a sign of respect. It shows that you think the event, lunch, meeting, date, or even just hanging out is important. And that they are too. So next time you’re supposed to go somewhere, make sure to plan your time wisely and get there when you’re supposed to!
USE YOUR WORDS
Want someone to feel good about themselves? Give them a compliment! Next time you think something nice about the person you’re with, tell them there and then. Think their outfit looks great? Let them know. Think their food was delicious? Tell them. Do they make you feel special and loved? Say it out loud! Compliments are a great, easy way to spread some kindness around.
VOLUNTEER
Whether it’s helping a friend out, raising money or awareness for a good cause, or donating time to your local food bank or charity shop, volunteering is a sure fire way to be kind. You’ll be helping your local community and making yourself feel good all at the same time. Win-win!
BABYSIT
Got younger siblings that require a lot of attention? Why not give your parents or family members a bit of time to themselves by offering to babysit. Whether you take them out to the park for a few hours or offer a whole night so your parents can go for dinner, the gesture of giving time and space will definitely be appreciated. And hey, it’s a good time to do some bonding with your sibs too!
THINKING OF YOU
Being kind is easy because it doesn’t always have to be big sweeping gestures. It can be as simple as a ‘saw this and thought of you’ or a ‘thinking of you, hope you’re okay’ kind of message. Why not make your pal’s day - or a friend or family member you haven’t seen in a while - by letting them know they’re on your mind.
CLOTHING SWAP
Have you ever looked at your friend’s wardrobe with envy and wished you could wear all their fits? Why not organise a clothing swap! Could be for one night only, or for a week at a time...but sharing is caring! Maybe you’ll even find a new style that you wouldn’t have thought to wear before.
THANK YOU
Saying please and thank you is often one of the first things we’re taught. But it doesn’t always mean it gets said. Make sure the next time someone does something for you, you say thanks. And, if you’re feeling extra kind...say thanks before they even do something. Got a friend who just makes your life better by being in it? Let them know and thank them for being who they are!
