Superstars: Autism Awareness
For their social action project, Tom and Team NCS 4 NAS decided to raise some money and some awareness for the National Autistic Society.
“We chose the National Autistic Society because some members in our group were affected by autism, either themselves or people they know.” said Tom. They found that a lack of understanding and misrepresentation in society when it comes to autism was the thing that affected them most, so the team decided to do something to make people more aware of what living with autism is really like, and raise awareness of the charity, who provide support, guidance and advice, as well as campaign for improved rights, services and opportunities to help create a society that works for autistic people.
The team came up with multiple ways to raise funds, including a sponsored walk, where each team member walked 10,000 steps, and a raffle and tombola in their community, where they gave away prizes that were donated by friends, family, and local businesses.
Team NCS 4 NAS had a goal of £500 and absolutely smashed it, ending up with £1000! Amazing!
