Five Things We Can Learn From The Queen
This (long!) weekend is Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration - a time to commemorate and celebrate the fact that The Queen has been reigning for 70 years! Queen Elizabeth II was only 25 years old when she was crowned, so she’s definitely one to look at for some life advice, tips and tricks. Here are five things we can all learn from Lizzy…
Don’t be afraid to stand out…
The Queen has never been one to fade into the background. From the 10,000 crystals on her wedding dress, to the hundred of different hats, and the lime green outfit she wore to Harry and Meghan’s wedding (which got all sorts of hilarious photoshop treatment). She doesn’t settle for anything less than extraordinary, and neither should anyone else. Wear something that’ll make other people stop in their tracks and make you feel good about yourself!
Get your hands dirty…
Literally! The Queen is trained in all sorts of royal duties and protocols, but she’s also a qualified mechanic and knows how to fix up a motor or two! As a teenager during World War Two, she served in the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service as a truck driver and mechanic. Having hobbies pays off, so don’t be afraid to try something new, it might get you to higher places!
Doing good is important…
Making a positive impact in your community (or the country in The Queen’s case!) is something that helps everyone. The Queen is a patron to more than 600 charities and organisations across the UK and the Commonwealth, ranging from well known to independent, agriculture to children and young people, healthcare to sport and recreation. Take a moment to think about what you could do where you live to help other people.
It’s okay to have fun…
Being The Queen comes with a lot of responsibilities, but just as importantly is making room to have a bit of fun every now and again. The Queen is known to enjoy spending time in the countryside, hanging out with her corgis and visiting her horse stables (and once in a blue moon, jumping out of a helicopter with Daniel Craig!). It’s also been said that one of her favourite games is “catching out the minister,” where she overly prepares for her weekly meetings with the Prime Minister and tries to surprise him with an aspect of government news that he hadn’t noticed. Cheeky! No matter how much work, studying, or important things you have on, give yourself a bit of time to r-e-l-a-x and have a laugh.
New people means new understanding…
The Queen is the most well-travelled monarch the country has ever had, visiting 110 countries on plane, train and automobile! And since the age of 50 has travelled to 43 countries for the first time! By travelling to different places and meeting different people, she gets a better understanding of different needs and cultures, and even a change in perspective. Don’t be afraid to meet new people (especially if you’re coming on Summer ‘22!) as you never know, they could turn out to be a friend for life!
