The scheme is open to young people aged 16-24, who are currently receiving Universal Credit, and offers six month paid positions with organisations all over the country. While the scheme is open to 16-24 year olds, due to our safeguarding policies, our positions are only available for those aged 18-24.

We have a bunch of exciting roles available both nationally and locally, in areas like community engagement, strategy, recruitment and marketing, and we’d love to have you on board!

What roles are on offer?

We have lots of exciting roles across several central NCS Trust departments in areas like community engagement, strategy, IT and marketing. Our partner organisations are also hiring so get in touch with us if you want to get an idea of other roles available within our network.

How long will I be employed?

All Kickstart placements cover a fixed six month period. You’ll be working 25 hours a week, Monday to Friday. In addition to the five hours, you will have one unpaid hour for lunch. Our core working hours are 9am to 5pm, but we have some flexibility with start and finish times. Right now, like most companies, NCS employees are working from home due to Covid-19. We’ll tell you more about this during the application process, including how we can help you get set up.

Who is eligible to apply?

The scheme is available across the country for young people aged 16-24 currently on Universal Credit. However, due to our safeguarding policies, our positions are only available to those aged 18-24.

How do I apply for this job?

Just chat to your Jobcentre Plus Work Coach about how to apply.

How much do I get paid?

All work placements are set at minimum wage.

What if this isn't the right job for me?

We want to make sure you have the best experience possible but sometimes we understand things just don’t work out. So, if you wish to opt out of the placement, you’ll be able to do so inline with your contract terms.

How do I get to work or will this be working from home?

Depending on lockdown circumstances you may start your role from home but don’t worry we’ll make sure you’re all set up to have a great start wherever you are. Should restrictions be lifted you may be able to travel to the office and meet your new colleagues face to face. Some roles will be entirely home based.

I haven't had an interview in a while. What's the recruiting process like?

There’ll be two stages to our recruitment process. After receiving your CV our recruitment team will schedule a call to hear more about you. Then, following this call, you may be invited to an online interview with up to two NCS Trust staff. At each stage you’ll receive feedback on your progress.

What other benefits will I get as an NCS Trust Kickstarter?

We want your NCS Trust Kickstart experience to be as significant as possible, which is why you'll have the opportunity to benefit from additional services as part of your placement. You'll be able to get involved with as many of the following activities as you want:

Action: Everyone has the ability to change the world. We'll reserve some of your placement hours so you can take part in meaningful volunteering projects. The NCS Trust has a long history of supporting people to deliver social action, and this is no different. Why not use some of your six months with us to make a difference in your local area?

Community: We develop more when we connect with others. We'll bring together groups at national and local levels, empowering you to grow your networks and gain essential employability skills. Whether that's by engaging with one of our events, or meeting regularly with a smaller group of colleagues. This is a chance for you to grow, reflect and be inspired together.

Support: Work is only one part of our lives. We'll provide access to dedicated 1:1 support, on hand to assist you with situations outside of your placement. They'll provide support and signposting for situations that life may throw at you in the six months, and they'll help you prepare for progression after the programme ends with essential employability skills.

You’ll also have the chance to help us design and shape our Kickstart  programme, whether that's by providing feedback, or stepping up to take a lead on some of our activities. We can't wait to see what you can do!
